NYC 10-Year-Old Gives 400 Kids Care Bears

Ten-year-old Zachary Kaplan partnered with Care Bears to give 400 at-risk children teddy bears as part of Care Bears National #ShareYourCare Day on Sept. 9.

In honor of Care Bears™ National #ShareYourCare Day on Sept. 9, which was declared this past May, 10-year-old NYC philanthropist Zachary Kaplan teamed up with Care Bear to share his care by giving 400 children ages 2-4 in the Leake & Watts Head Start Program—a local human services agency that provides support to 8,000 at-risk children, adults, and families in the New York metro area—a plush Care Bear and DVD.

Zachary believes that all children should have a beloved stuffed animal or lovie to sleep with each night. As part of his personal mission to undertake one philanthropic event each year, Zachary contacted Care Bears about his idea to give teddy bears to children whose families cannot afford to buy them, and will commemorate the start of the school year by making 400 children happy.

Zachary got his philanthropic start in 2013 when he secured 2,000 Kind Bars from Fairway Market to sell and raise money for the citizens of the Philippines who were affected by Typhoon Haiyan. Zachary was able to raise $1,250, which he presented to the Consul General for the Philippine Consulate.

#ShareYourCare is a movement created by Care Bear in the hopes that people will be inspired to spread caring, sharing, love, friendship, acceptance, fun, happiness, compassion, and philanthropic generosity not only on Sept. 9, but every day of the year.
