    Dance Studio Opens Second Location in New City

    Steel Toes Dance Studio, originally based in West Nyack, is opening a new studio location in New City. The studio offers dance classes for children and adults, as well as dance fitness classes for adults, and a competitive dance team for children.


    Owner Kathy Stead opened Steel Toes Dance Studio in West Nyack 32 years ago. Steel Toes Dance Studio teaches a variety of dance types, including hip hop, pointe, jazz, ballet, tap, and more, to ages 2 through adults. Stead decided to open up the studio’s second location in New City in order to alleviate overcrowding in classes at the original studio.

    “[Overcrowding in classes] was the number one complaint,” Stead says. “And I have a large clientele from New City, so it makes sense.”

    In addition to the dance classes for all ages offered at West Nyack studio, the New City location will offer an audition-only competition dance team for hip-hop, lyrical, and acro/hip-hop dancers. The team will participate in regional competitions in New Jersey and Long Island starting in the spring. Auditions will take place Sunday, Sept. 27 for ages 8 and older.



    Steel Toes Dance Studio also offers exercise classes for adults. Ballet barre core and Diva workout classes are scheduled for Monday through Wednesday at both locations.

    The West Nyack studio will also offer a summer camp and birthday parties. Camp is held for four weeks during the summer and includes weekly themes for ages 3-6 years. Teens can participate in three back-to-back classes for five weeks in July and August. Birthday parties are for up to 20 children and include goodie bags, a treasure hunt, piñata, and two hip-hop dance instructors to teach partygoers a routine.

    The new location is scheduled to open Sept. 16.
