Formerly known as Helen Owen Carey Child Development Center, Park Slope North Child Development Center is returning to the name it was founded under to establish an identity that sets itself apart from other child learning centers in Brooklyn. The center focuses on interactive learning for children ages 2 to 4, and class sizes are limited to 12 for 2-year-olds, 15 for 3-year-olds, and 20 for 4-year-olds. Many of the teachers are certified or are working toward that goal.

Park Slope North is unique in that it provides long days to cater to working parents. The center is open year-round, from 8am to 5:45pm. It is even open in the summer and many other days when public schools are closed. The curriculum is play-based and meets high standards established by its regulating bodies. Lunch and snacks are prepared in the center's own kitchen.

The facility features rooftop and backyard playgrounds, and a garden, which gives children the opportunity to interact with the environment. “Children have eaten, for lunch or snack, many of the foods they have helped grow in our garden,” says director Deanna Butler. An indoor play space is also provided for children to have the opportunity to participate in music and movement classes.
