What Math Homework Will My Child Have?

Let’s face it: Some of us are clueless about math, let alone the “new” math children are learning in school. And the homework can be even more confusing. Raymond J. Huntington, Ph.D., co-founder of Huntington Learning Center, shares what types of homework you should expect your elementary school-aged child to be assigned.

 

What types of math homework should I expect for my elementary school child?

In second grade, children will bring home math worksheets, which may take 10-20 minutes to complete. These worksheets will focus on explaining math concepts.

In third grade, nightly math homework should take 15-25 minutes and moves into multiplication, division, and early geometry (in addition to multi-digit addition and subtraction).
