Legoland Discovery Center Westchester Opens in Yonkers

Legoland Discovery Center Westchester Opens in Yonkers

Legoland Discovery Center Westchester, located in Yonkers, NY, is an indoor amusement park featuring more than 3 million Lego bricks, plus Lego-themed rides, games, and more. It is the first of its kind in the New York City area.

On March 27, 2013, Yonkers, NY, became the proud home to an already iconic attraction when it opened the doors to Legoland Discovery Center Westchester. The first of its kind in our area and only the fifth in the nation, this new 32,000-square-foot indoor destination boasts more than 3 million Lego bricks and a host of fun activities geared toward children ages 3-10, including hands-on play areas, a 4-D cinema, master classes led by Master Model Builders, two Lego rides, and special birthday party rooms.

Legoland Westchester factory

Kids can learn how Legos are made in the Factory Tour area, and each visitor will take home a souvenir Lego brick.

A unique exhibit at Legoland in Westchester is Miniland, which showcases a colorful version of the New York metro area landscape, including some local Westchester landmarks such as Lyndhurst and Washington Irving’s Sunnyside, all made out of Lego bricks.

The Lego Racers: Build and Test area allows participants to build their own cars and race them around a track. (Warning: It can be very hard to pull competitive kids away from this high-energy activity!)

Legoland 4D Cinema

The 4-D Cinema rotates short Lego-themed movies. Be prepared for special effects like wind and water!

You’ll also find an Earthquake Table, where little builders can construct Lego towers and, with the press of a button, find out whether their creations can withstand an earthquake.

If you’ve got a preschooler in tow, be sure to visit Duplo Village, a soft play area that features larger Lego bricks.

Legoland Friends area

If your junior household members have been playing with the Lego Friends collection, they’ll delight in the pink play area with karaoke stage.

Kids can take a break from building and scale a large climbing structure where they can burn some energy. There are also two rides: Kingdom Quest is skewed for older riders, as it features lasers “to defeat the skeletons, vanquish the trolls, and rescue the captured princess!”; Merlin’s Apprentice requires riders to be at least 36 inches tall, and those 48 inches and shorter must ride with an adult. This ride goes up and down, controlled by the riders.

You’ll need at least two to three hours to enjoy all the exhibits. There’s also a café on site, serving kid-friendly fare, and a store where you’ll find plenty of Lego-themed items, big and small.

Legoland birthday party room

As any Lego fan with an upcoming birthday will want to know, party packages are available, some of which include face time with a Lego Master Model Builder and a take-home project.

Legoland Discovery Center Westchester is located in Westchester’s Ridge Hill complex, an outdoor mall filled with shopping, restaurants, a movie theater, an outdoor play space, and more.
