Family Art Project: Weathering a Storm

Flurries, snowfalls, blizzards and ice storms—how do you weather a storm? Storms are a natural process that can have a big impact on our lives. Learn the art and science of forecasting a storm as you create your own snow globes. Give those old sauce jars a new life with found objects, cut-up paper and old photographs. Registration not required. The program is now indoors in the Kerlin Learning Center located on the ground floor of Wave Hill House. Please note the following important COVID-related information to ensure everyone’s safety: Approximately nine families will be able to participate at a time, based on the time each family arrives. If capacity is full when you arrive, you will be provided with a “come back” card so you will have first entry for the next session. Each family will receive its own set of materials and cleaning will happen in between seating participants. Unvaccinated visitors are encouraged to wear a mask inside. Wave Hill House is accessible to all visitors. The building is located along a paved route with moderate changes in grade.

Ride a Vintage Train to Visit Santa Claus - All Aboard The Snow Clipper for the First Gift Express

That portly gent from the North Pole will once again pay a visit to the Danbury Railway Museum and you can take a short ride in a vintage train through the historic railyard to visit him. This is a major fund-raising event for the museum and will take place on Saturdays and Sundays, December 3-4, 10-11, and 17-18. The museum will be open each day from noon to 7:00 PM. Reservations are necessary for this very popular event as it sold out last year! When guests arrive and check-in at the restored 1903 train station, kids and parents will be able to enjoy the festively decorated museum interior. This includes a Letters to Santa coloring station (be sure to include your mailing address, as Santa does write back!), operating model railroads, and many interesting exhibits and artifact displays. After a short train ride in a restored 1953 Rail Diesel Car through the historic Danbury railyard, you'll be escorted back to the station for a meet and greet with Santa and Mrs. Claus, where the big man himself will give out the first gifts of Christmas. Returning due to its popularity last year: parents will bring a pre-wrapped present (or select one from our online menu (includes FREE gift wrapping & batteries) -- see Web site for details), and Old St. Nick will give your little ones their unique present! Trains will depart at 12:30, 2:00, 3:30, 5:00, and 6:30. The 5:00 and 6:30 trains will run in darkness which will be ideal for enjoying the lighted railyard. Afterwards, you are free to enjoy a walk through the railyard with a cup of hot chocolate - don't forget the marshmallows!

Amidst the wintery backdrop outside Armor Hall, Downes will feature a sneak peak of her upcoming Pentatone label release Love At Last, a reflection on the power of imagination and the possibility of new beginnings. Lara Downes is a musical trailblazer and activist dedicated to expanding the resonance and relevance of American music. In addition to appearances as a soloist with top symphony orchestras nationwide, not to mention her Billboard chart-topping albums, she is the creator and host of AMPLIFY with Lara Downes, a video series for NPR Music, and founder of Rising Sun Music, a recording series that shines light on the music and stories of Black composers over the past 200 years. Christmas Grand Market 2022

Grand Market is a longstanding tradition in Jamaica that takes place after the usual Christmas morning service or on the eve of Christmas Day. The whole community would be out in their numbers participating in a variety of games, and competitions for all ages, lots of gifts including many toys were on sale from brightly decorated stalls, there was food and drink in abundance, and a great time was had by the entire family throughout the day.
