The outreach efforts of high schools, at-risk youth agencies, group homes, churches, and various other community organizations make this program possible. Almost 100 local businesses, organizations and hundreds of individuals donate time, funding and resources to this cause every year. Over 1,500 young women benefit from this event annually.
“This gives people the opportunity to donate a special dress and know it will be going some place special,” said Sandy Viola of the Prom Boutique Steering Committee.
The shopping event for high school students will take place in April and is limited to girls participating and select volunteers to ensure privacy and exclusivity for every girl shopping.
“We try to make it really special for the girls,” said Viola. “The boutique is organized like a real department store and we do alterations throughout the hour to ensure that the dress fits them just right.”
