St. Agnes Academic High School is Expected to Launch a Certified Nursing Assistant Program

St. Agnes Academic High School in College Point is expected to begin its Certified Nursing Assistant Program next Spring, pending approval from New York State. Principal Susan Nicoletti says she decided to bring the program to St. Agnes because of the desire students had to have classes in healthcare.

"We're excited about it, and waiting on pins and needles for approval," says Nicoletti. "It will be a wonderful program that will give our students the edge on college."

The program would entail students doing 108 hours of on-site clinical work at Ozanam Hall Nursing Home, Bayside, and 108 hours of in-class theory work.

"As part of their experience, the students learn a variety of things, like CPR, infectious disease control, even how to wash their hands properly," Nicoletti said. 

Right now, students interested in the program can participate in an after-school club that focuses on careers in healthcare.

The school submitted their request for the program's approval in May. Once it's approved, it can accomodate up to 10 students.

Founded in 1908 by the Sisters of St. Dominic, St. Agnes Academic High School is an all-girls school that works to develop a strong foundation for lifelong learning. Chartered by the University of the State of New York, St. Agnes Academic High School is affiliated with the Catholic University of America, Washington, DC, and is accredited by the Middle States Assocation of Colleges and Schools.
