Rose Academy of Ballet to Launch Summer Dance Intensive

Rose Academy of Ballet to Launch Summer Dance Intensive

Rose Academy of Ballet in Forest Hills will hold a four-week dance intensive for students ages 8-12 this summer.

The dance intensive will meet twice a week, Mondays and Wednesdays, from July 3-28. Students will focus on classical ballet, jazz, tap, and musical theater and drama.

“We like to call it a triple-threat summer intensive,” says Melissa Wilson, program director. “The students will sing, they will dance, and they will act.”

Rose Academy of Ballet is also offering a summer day program for dancers ages 3-7 from July 3-Aug. 18. In addition to its summer offerings, the dance academy offers a level program, in which students work on techniques and gain confidence through classical training. Dancers in this program will participate in a fall semester studio showing and a spring dance concert. The school's pre-ballet program combines movement and music for students to explore ballet while having fun; and it also offers a "Wiggle & Scribble" class, in which parents and caregivers participate with children in order to help them develop social and motor skills through play.

Wilson was a member of Dayton Ballet II, Charleston Ballet Theater, and has danced with classical and contemporary companies in NYC. She has her BFA from the University of Akron, MFA from the Tisch School of Arts, and has ample experience as a teacher and choreographer. Kara Cooper is another Rose Academy teacher, a graduate of the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.

Rose Academy of Ballet’s mission is to teach based on the belief that children blossom in a positive and nurturing environment.
