Lipson Family Coaching Opens in New City and Bardonia

Lipson Family Coaching Opens in New City and Bardonia

Melissa Lipson, a professional school counselor, will offer coaching services to support children and families individually and in groups.

Melissa Lipson has been a school counselor in Nanuet for over 20 years and she is expanding her services beyond the district with Lipson Family Coaching, Inc. this summer. Lipson says she is excited to bring three decades of experience in schools to her new, private practice.

Lipson will work with a child in the comfort of your home, in the office, and even on the playground. She will meet your teen wherever he feels comfortable. Using a variety of strategies and techniques, she teaches important life skills that allow your child to protect her emotional well-being and to function at her best now and in the future.

Lipson Family Coaching offers one-time coaching sessions as well as lengthier packages that can last up to 12-weeks depending on the client’s need.  Lipson says families can expect to see positive transformations after four to six weeks of working with her.

Lipson explained that as a school counselor she works with children individually and in groups by strengthening their social and emotional skills.

As a coach, going into the home with younger children helps her understand family dynamics and how she can help individuals implement positive change. For teens, since they might not want to discuss certain things at home, she’ll meet them anywhere–on a walk, a basketball court, or even a diner.

Lipson says coaching is a very unique service. During coaching, a client works with a coach, who is not a healthcare professional, to clarify goals and identify obstacles in order to create action plans so they can achieve desired results. The process of coaching works with the client from where they are in the present moment, whereas counseling and therapy work with the client to diagnose or resolve past issues, according to Lipson.

Lipson says her background as a counselor gives her unique tools and an extensive network in Rockland with which she can help families. When one member of a family is struggling, she says, it affects all members of a family.

“Whereas with therapy or counseling, when you go, you’re treating, you’re healing the past…coaching is really taking the family where they are right now and creating an action plan,” she says.

Families who are interested in being coached will have a free telephone conversation with Lipson to discuss the issues they are facing, how coaching can benefit their family, and to determine the right coaching package for the best possible outcome.

“I’m definitely an out of the box thinker. I’ve been working with children for 30 years,” she says. “I know how to reach kids and create transformations.”

This summer, Lipson will also be offering a summer social skills program for children who are struggling with making and keeping friends, resolving conflicts, or struggling with their confidence and self-esteem. These groups aim to give children who struggle with friendships a sense of belonging and a place to connect in a positive way with other children. This multi-sensory, hands on program is to help children ages 5-16 prepare for a successful transition to kindergarten all the way through high school.
