Online Parental Controls Available from Delaney Computer Services

It’s impossible to constantly stand over children’s shoulders and monitor what sites they’re curious about or what they’re searching for on Google. For Rockland families, Rich Delaney and the team at Delaney Computer Services have alleviated the pressure.

Today’s children are using computers, smartphones, tablets, and other devices at younger ages—some 10-year-olds have Internet-connected iPods, and some toddlers play with iPads before naptime. While it’s important for children to learn how to use technology in today’s world, there’s a harsh reality of inappropriate material that plagues the web.

It’s impossible to constantly stand over children’s shoulders and monitor what sites they’re curious about or what they’re searching for on Google. For Rockland families, Rich Delaney and the team at Delaney Computer Services have alleviated the pressure.

Open since 1995, DCS is one of the oldest and leading information technology firms in Rockland. Delaney noticed parents coming in daily with concerns about what their children were surfing on the web. Searches for “funny cat videos” would render a slew of inappropriate links that required explaining at too young an age. Some parents had discovered risqué material that their teenagers dug up. Because of a high demand from the community, DCS recently began offering a Parental Control service to families.

To set up the service, a representative will come to your home, assess the specific needs of blockage and install a package of software tailored to best benefit your web experience. DCS aims to make parents feel safer knowing that their kids won’t stumble onto anything inappropriate, setting basic parental controls on devices from computers to iPods, as well as attaching software to the home router to cut off certain searches for pornography or chat rooms, for example.

Delaney says this service is not a replacement for parenting and that it’s important for parents to teach kids what’s age appropriate on the web. It can, however, provide comfort for parents. The key, he says,  is to be proactive and install the service before it’s too late.

The service ranges from $250-$500. Delaney Computer Services also offers a wide array of other IT services and computer products.
