Family Astronomy Night a Success!

Last Sunday night, the sun, the moon, and the earth aligned for the first supermoon, total lunar eclipse in 33 years. Under the guidance of Lower School Science Teacher, Rick Geismar, and Department Chair, Dr. George Pasquale, The Green Vale School students, parents and faculty gathered on campus to observe and experience the extraordinary event together.

“Family Astronomy Night was a great success.  It was a rare opportunity to bring the community together around a real world event.  Two telescopes brought the historic Supermoon Eclipse right into our backyards and up close.  This was a cross-curricular event and informed many aspects of science being taught across all grade-levels. ” Rick Geismar

The strong Science Program at The Green Vale School makes the most of its beautiful campus including our own pond and four science labs under the leadership of five dedicated science teachers. It begins in Early Childhood classes with their settings enriched by a variety of resources that stimulate our youngest children to gain a richer appreciation of their natural world. Lower School science continues to nurture students’ natural curiosity in learning and using the scientific method through numerous hands-on activities. Our Upper School science program has a strong academic curriculum enriched by collaborations with local institutions including Brookhaven National Labs, the Long Island Aquarium, the Dolan DNA Center and C. W. Post. We also offer extra-curricular options such as a robotics club, a Marine Science Program and an award-winning rocket club. Our students graduate prepared for science courses in high school and beyond.
