    Pediatric Dental Office Opens in Pomona

    Dr. Marita Smith has opened a new practice, Smith’s Little Smiles Pediatric Dentistry, in Pomona.


    Marita Smith, D.D.S., a board-certified pediatric dentist, opened a new practice, Smith's Little Smiles Pediatric Dentistry, mid-January in Pomona. The practice offers a range of dental services for children from infancy through adolescence and offers weekend and evening appointments.

    As a parent of two, Dr. Smith knows firsthand how important it is for children to be comfortable and stress-free during their dental visits. “Parents should encourage children before their visit—let them know that it’s not scary to go to the dentist,” Dr. Smith says. “We want to help them and make it as fun as possible.”

    One way that Smith’s Little Smiles makes visits fun for children is to have a television screen in their direct field of vision during procedures, providing entertainment and a distraction. 

    The staff at Smiths Little Smiles Pediatric Dentistry utilizes various methods of behavior management, including the use of nitrous oxide, to help make every appointment as pleasant as possible for patients and their parents. They also strive to use comforting and positive words when speaking with patients and believe in a “tell, show, do” approach: They will tell the child about each procedure, show them what it looks like, and then perform it once the child is comfortable.
