Seeds of Change Grant to Award $300,000 to School and Community Gardens

Seeds of Change Grant to Award $300,000 to School and Community Gardens

The Seeds of Change Grant Program, which will award a total of $300,000 to school and community gardens, is accepting applications through March 28.

Seeds of Change, which was founded in 1989 to make organically grown seeds available to gardeners and farmers while preserving heirloom seed varieties, launched its fifth annual Seeds of Change Grant Program on March 2. In an effort to positively impact local gardens, the grant program will award a total of $300,000 this year to U.S. school and community gardens that focus on telling the seed-to-plate story through sustainable, community-based gardening and farming programs.

There are 24 grants available: two $20,000 and 10 $10,000 grants will be awarded to school programs, and two $20,000 and 10 $10,000 grants will be awarded to community garden programs. In addition, the grant ambassadors at the $20,000 grant award level will be given the opportunity to attend an organic conference and receive a personal Seeds of Change garden mentor.

“The Seeds of Change brand is committed to growing healthier, more sustainable communities,” said Andres Cops, marketing director for Seeds of Change. “This year we are making an even bigger, and more personal, impact by awarding for four highest level grant writers the opportunity to further their organic education with a Seeds of Change gardening mentor and an opportunity to focus on the best gardening practices.”

Applications for the Seeds of Change Grant Program must be submitted by March 28. From March 31-April 18, applications will be available for public voting. The top 50 organizations—25 schools and 25 community gardens that received the most votes—will move onto the final judging phase. Grant recipients will be announced in early May.
