Queens College Summer Camp Adds Program and Updates Facilities

Queens College Summer Camp has a new, all-day sports club for campers, which will utilize the recently updated gymnasium on campus.

Campers in the QC Sports Club, for children ages 9-14, will explore swimming, softball, soccer, tennis, volleyball, and basketball all day.

“Kids can play any number of sport activities that we represent in our Queens College athletic department,” says Buz Considine, the assistant director of recreation at Queens College.

Campers will also benefit from the updated gymnasium and its 82,000 square feet of flooring, including basketball and volleyball courts.

Campers ages 5-14 in the Education and Sports program divide the day between age-appropriate academic enrichment (science, art, and computers) and athletic activities (basketball, swimming, and more).

Other options include the Counselor-in-Training Program for teens ages 15-16 as well as dance and theater programs. Dance Academy invites campers ages 5-14 of all experience levels to learn more about dance styles such as jazz, hip-hop, ballet, and tap in order to choreograph a dance to culminate in a showcase performance for families. Participants will divide their days between dance and sports activities.

Queens College Summer Camp also offers Theatre Arts for children ages 9-14 and a Little Theatre program for campers ages 5-8. During these full-day programs, campers will learn more about acting, dancing, music, or behind-the-scenes work.

Queens College Summer Camp has been running for 28 years. Its various camp programs, including QC Sports Club, take place throughout the summer with sessions this year from July 3-Aug. 24. The basic camp time is 9am-4pm, Monday-Friday. Applications are now being accepted. All sports equipment is provided as well as a grab-and-go breakfast,  snacks, and lunch. An extended day option is available. Door-to-door bus service is provided for an additional charge.
