The Jewish Education Project Partners with Music Together of Nyack for New Sing Shalom Classes

The Jewish Education Project Partners with Music Together of Nyack for New Sing Shalom Classes

The renowned music program will partner with the Jewish non-profit to create classes that provide cultural experiences for families of all faiths.

The Jewish Education Project is partnering with Music Together LLC to create a Jewish version of its high-quality, renowned music education program called Sing Shalom. The class will incorporate Jewish music and songs into the regular Music Together class to provide a unique, cultural experience for families. Classes will be offered by Moon River Mother and Child at Congregation Sons of Israel in Nyack.

The classes, slated to begin Monday, April 15, are designed for children ages newborn-4 years old and occur once a week on Mondays at 10:30am, starting with a demo class the week before for anyone interested in meeting the teacher.

“Rabbi Ariel Russo [of Congregation Sons of Israel in Upper Nyack] herself is a new parent and she will be participating in Sing Shalom with her daughter,” says Shariee Calderone communal education consultant for the Jewish Education Project. “I am helping to connect the dots between Rabbi Russo and the Music Together provider in the Nyack area. Then we provide the curriculum of songs which infuses a whole cultural aspect.”

Each Music Together Sing Shalom teacher takes additional training with The Jewish Education Project so that, in addition to being Music Together teachers, they are considered Jewish concierges, according to Calderone. The Sing Shalom teachers are there to support new parents in understanding the class, answering any questions, and of course, teach the class.

The Jewish Education Project services the New York metro area and beyond and aims to help educators and family engagement practitioners whose programs reach and meet the needs of the Jewish community.

“It’s so wonderful to have partnered with such a high-quality organization that really has shows synergy between how we view the delivery of content and engagement of families,” says Calderone.  “Also, I went to Nyack High School so it’s nice for me to see this program come to the community that I spent so much time in and grew up in.”
