The École is Relaunching its Full-Ride Middle School Scholarship Program

Here's how your middle schooler can be awarded a full-ride scholarship to The Ecole.

The École (formerly École Internationale de New York)—an independent Nursery through eighth grade French-American school in the Flatiron District—will award three full-ride scholarships to new students in middle school (sixth through eighth grade). The scholarship will cover the full tuition for the students entire time at The École. Here's how your child can apply to win this full-ride scholarship:

  • Your child must not be a current student at The École
  • Your child must be in fifth to seventh grade in the 2020-2021 school year
  • Your child must speak, read, and write in French and English
  • Your child must submit original writing samples in French and English, ideally completed for a prior school assignment

Selection will be based on financial need, diversity, and merit. Candidates who apply and meet these criteria will be chosen for a final round of selection and invited to the school on Saturday, Feb. 27 or Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021 to give a short presentation in French to a jury on the topic of their choice. The jury will be made up of teachers and administrators from The École and experts in multilingual education. Families can write to [email protected] to receive more details about the application process. The deadline to apply is Feb. 20, 2021 and results will be announced on March 8, 2021.

The École chose to renew this scholarship offering because it "still sees a need in the current dual-language offerings in NYC." The school has been fully onsite (in-person learning) since the beginning of the school year, unlike many NYC public schools which have been a combination of in-person and online.

“We, like many parents, know the value of a bilingual education. This is why The École would like to help some families to continue the bilingual education of their children,” said Philippe and Laurence Roux, The École benefactors. “Our unique dual program, which really goes beyond bilingual through the artful blending of both the French and American curriculum, will prepare these students for the next step of their education, whether in a public or private school, here in the U.S., in France, or abroad.”
