Dental Wellness of Suffern Adds New Dental Technology

Dental Wellness of Suffern is now offering an alternative to traditional dentistry: Convergent Dental’s Solea Dental Laser.

Introduced to the office in November 2017, the Solea Dental Laser is a U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved isotopic carbon dioxide laser that can perform almost all dental procedures, including sterilizing gum disease, cutting hard and soft gum tissue for sculpting, filling cavities, and helping crowns fit better—all with no needles, drills, anesthesia, or pain involved.

Sherri Alpert, D.D.S., owner of Dental Wellness of Suffern, says the Solea Dental Laser treatment has changed the way she practices dentistry, noting that patients don’t have to spend as much time at the office with this treatment as compared to traditional dental techniques. Alpert also notes that working patients can come in during their lunch break, have a procedure completed, and return to work immediately.

“I didn’t want to hurt people [during dental work],” Dr. Alpert says. “I wanted to take care of them without pain.”

The Solea laser treatment is appropriate for all ages and is especially ideal for younger children—in fact, Dr. Alpert says the painless procedure has helped to fix ankyloglossia (tongue-tie) in nursing babies. And since dental work can be performed without anesthesia, parents will not have to worry about their children biting their tongue and hurting themselves.

“Moms can be happy that the process is painless,” Dr. Alpert says. “Most people say it feels like air blowing on their tooth.”

Alpert notes that the Solea laser treatment does not perform root canals. She also says patients should specify at the time of making their appointment that they would like the Solea treatment.
