Safe and fun hangouts for teenagers and sanity-saving support for parents of teens in Rockland County, NY.

 

For Parents

Parents of Teens and Tweens Support Group

Learn how to improve communication between you and your teen or tween in this professionally facilitated support group. Share your ideas and concerns while gaining strategies for setting limits, establishing trust, fostering independence, and encouraging competence and accountability. Meets every other Monday, 6:45-8:45pm. $20 a session. Presented by the Rockland Parent-Child Center. Sessions held at Riverview Nursery School, 150 Piermont Avenue, Nyack. Psychotherapeutic Services for Parents and Teens

Steven Lee, Ph.D., a New York state-licensed psychologist and former school psychologist, works with parents and teens to facilitate 'conscious parenting' and regular communication. His approach focuses on helping parents become aware of their parenting style and implementing proactive communication with their teen. Dr. Lee's practice is located at 99 Main Street, Suite 320, in Nyack. For more information: 914-582-6725.

 

For Teens

Friday Night Open Gym at The Sports Place

Includes a variety of games and activities, including basketball and other sports, glow-in-the-dark mini golf, and laser tag; access to inflatable slides and bounces, including a 20-foot slide and bungee run; video arcade; and an ice cream parlor where teens can hang out, get snacks, and play games. Open to all ages. Held every Friday night, 7:30-10:30pm. $15 admission; $5 extra for early drop-off (6:30pm).

 

Haverstraw Kings Daughters Public Library

The library provides a safe environment for teens to hang out and features a variety of teen programming each month, including author talks, college workshops, and gaming nights. National Honor Society students can also earn community service hours by providing homework and/or computer assistance to children in grades 1-5 (Drop-in homework help in all subjects on Mondays and Wednesdays, 6:30-7:30pm; and drop-in basic computer help Tuesdays, 5-6pm). Style Studio for Teens at The Pink Chandelier Design Studio

Owner Julie Murray opened Pink Chandelier to provide a place for girls of all ages to be themselves and have fun. The Style Studio for Teens hosts a variety of events and workshops that allow teens to express themselves through art and design.
