Babe-shader Sunburn can occur in as little as 15 minutes on a sunny summer day. It takes even less time for toddlers and young children, due to their extremely sensitive skin… The name of the new Shade-a-Babe could not be more appropriate, and once again, necessity is proven to be the mother of invention. The newest Outlook product fits over most three- and four-wheel strollers and joggers. It’s a Sun Visor with optional drop-down mesh — providing up to 99 percent UV protection and reducing glare to sensitive eyes without obstructing children’s views of the world. Shade-a-Babe’s creators are two New Zealand moms who came up with the idea shortly after the birth of their first children. Frustrated by the lack of sun-protection products available and using towels and blankets that obstructed their babies’ view, they decided to create a more effective sunshade that would better protect their children. “We designed the shade specifically so that parents could use it on both their standard stroller and jogging stroller,” says Louise Dawson, one of Outlook’s founders. “The shade has proved so popular that we are now making models for double strollers and car seats too.” The product can be used in different positions depending on the child’s age and the degree of sun protection required. The optional UPF50+ sun visor can be used with or without the lower mesh. With a baby, the cover can be used in the fully extended position with the lower mesh helping to cut down glare. As the child grows and becomes more active, the sun visor can be used on its own with the lower mesh folded out of the way. On less sunny days, the sun visor itself can be folded back, leaving the in-built glare shield, which offers up to 90 percent UV protection for the delicate face and eye area. Single visors cost $39.99, doubles $45.99. Available in baby stores and online: www.darimikidz.com.
