    Help needed!

    If you're between 14 and 80-something years old — and if you're reading this, the chances are you just might be — then The Long Island Children's Museum would like to have you as one of its volunteers. Current volunteers include students (both high school and college), parents, and grandparents. But the museum is still in need of as many as 75 volunteers, many of whom will work directly with children and families as assistant "Explainers", or docents. Assistant Explainers receive 10-20 hours of training using video and one-on-one mentoring by the museum's senior paid Explainers. (Explainers also contribute to other museum areas, including story and music programs for tots, as performers and technicians in the museum's theater, helping with crafts programs, and assisting on special events.) Behind-the-scenes work includes positions at the information and ticket desks, and administrative help. Skilled craftspeople are needed to build and maintain the museum's variety of exhibits, while the computer-savvy will find plenty to do in the Information Technology department.
